Our Safari

Evelyn and Christal by our Mission Tour Van

Our first afternoon at the Giraffe Center. We fed this giraffe special "giraffe pellets". This is a rare Rothchild giraffe. We also visited the Karen Blixen (author of Out of Africa) estate.

We spent our second day visiting Christian Mission Aid (CMA) projects in the Mathare Valley Slum. This is one of the largest slums in East Africa, with around a half million residents. There are many criminals, drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. so we were given special protection by several young men from the project to serve as bodyguards.

The "streets" are very narrow with open sewers. Here are some of the school children waiting in line for lunch. The CMA project feeds over 1,500 children a day here. Just wait until you hear about this experience, there's a lot more to tell you!!!

Here is Evelyn with a student named Evelyn. We visited around 24 different classrooms, approximately 10X12 feet holding 45 to 55 students each. Each class recited memory verses, poems, and sang songs for us. It was very moving and brought us to tears. We are so fortunate at home.

For Evelyn's Birthday dinner, we dined outdoors by the pool, surrounded by lush foliage and singing frogs! This was a special day and unusual way to spend a Birthday.
