Life in South Sudan

Technologists discussing identification strips Here are several photos showing the pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) laboratory at Kenya Medical Research Institute  (KEMRI) in Nairobi, Kenya. The laboratory is currently staffed by four Kenyans with specialized training in aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology.   Lead Technologist working in the anaerobic chamber

The laboratory processes and analyzes cultures of endometrial tissue and fallopian tubes to identify the microbial flora present in samples from women with PID. The laboratory provides training for staff and students in aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology.  (Note: move your mouse over the photos for a description of them).

Traveling in a war zone is an experience you never forget While my wife was busy in the PID lab, I spent much of my time working with Christian Mission Aid (CMA) in Nairobi, traveling to many of the locations throughout Kenya where they have projects.  I shot many hours of video and developed their Web Site- www.CMAid.org.  Traveling to Sudan was quite an adventure, and an experience I will never forget. Since this is a war zone, you need a special pass issued by the South Sudan Defense Force.   Wzungu really stand out in an African crowd!

One of CMA's many programs is  a home for Street Kids in Nairobi called Shangilia.

A "twiga" with Mt. Kenya in the background (see the snow on the summit!) Here are several photos taken while on safaris in Kenya.  While we both work hard while we area in Kenya, we do take opportunities to have some fun and take advantage of the amazing wildlife and diverse beauty of the Kenyan countryside.  A group of Grevy Zebras
A lonely Massai Giraffe (Twiga in Swahili) A lone Grevy Zebra This Cheetah is very comfortable around tourists
The major attractions include the Massai Mara (plains), the mountains (Mt. Kenya region), the lakes (Rift Valley), and the coast (Mombassa, Malindi, and Lamu).
